ALMIRIDA CHANIA

Almyrida is located 23 km east of Chania, on the south side of Souda Bay and 1 km west of Plaka. It is a calm tourist resort, with good infrastructure and a wonderful sea. The unspoilt countryside and green olive groves around Almyrida are ideal places for walkers.

Almyrida was a colony of the Phoenicians, from whom the location of Phoinikia, where there are ruins and captured tombs from that time, takes its name. At the entrance of the village, the ruins of a three-aisled, early Christian Basilica of the 6th AD have been excavated. century, with excellent quality and maintenance mosaic floors, which have been maintained. The last battle with the Turkish invaders took place in Almyrida in 1896.
